Playground is a creative sample player useful for several genres (Hip Hop, House, Ambient & more). It comes with 50 carefully designed kits, each consists of 16 samples which all go along very well (no need for music theory). These kits consist of drums and or sounds (like chords, bass & more) or a mixture of those. It's fun and easy to play around and quickly get song ideas and variations. It's also possible to use more than one instance to combine different kits to get more complex structures (CPU friendly). This instrument is most fun with a grid / pads MIDI controller but works nicely with any other MIDI device. The onboard effects (reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, pitch / pan LFO) and the amp envelope let you shape the sound some more. This instrument is meant to give you quick and direct inspirations without thinking too much.

Surely you want to use a vintage synth to create this specific style and KORG´s Mono/Poly (Included in their VST Legacy Collection) is one of the best. You´ll get just the right balance of bass, arp, lead, brass, pad, pluck and chord sounds to build your songs. As a bonus, all MIDI files from the demo are included. These btw are all in key Cm which makes it easy to find matching ones. Most of these presets can be tweaked via the modulation wheel, besides all other assignable knobs and functions of the Mono/Poly of course.

The riddims have a typical playful oldskool Lo-Fi flavor with just the right naive / positive sounds, emulating the original electronic affordable gear with some bit reduction and roughness here and there which is exactly wanted and the essence plus fun part of this genre. Still you could exchange all sounds, including the drums to your liking with the given MIDI files, if you so desire. All kits have separate delay and reverb effect channel mixdowns so you can use your own, besides an overall mixdown for quick pre-listening purpose.
